As the country is struggling with inflation, Malaysians are advised to manage their finances wisely and NOT to spend on unnecessary items. If you’re in need of a car, it’s best to spend on the one that best suits your budget.

Recently, the Facebook page Penang Press shared an anonymous ‘message’ of a Malaysian who seeks help online after he purchased himself a brand new car. The person, who earns the minimum wage of RM1,500 claimed that the loan for his Perodua Alza has just been approved. For that, he is expected to fork out around RM900 on a monthly basis to pay the loan.

‘Any tips on how to spend less on food?’ the person asked.

‘Just take the public transport’

The person’s cry for help has since garnered attention on social media and many have expressed their disagreement over the decision to purchase a car out of his means. A user has since advised him to sell the car and opt for public transportation instead.

‘You should’ve known that with the amount your earn monthly, you can’t even pay for a small car.’

Another user advised him to earn more by working another job after finishing his work.

‘Spend 5 or 6 hours after your daily job to earn more for yourself and your family.’

‘Take a smaller car instead, Axia or Bezza, which are cheaper. When you earn more, that’s when you can trade in for a bigger vehicle.’

A  couple of users questioned how was his loan approved in the first place, given his financial status.

‘Lawfully, your loan shouldn’t have been approved. It should be 1/3 of your pay. Nevertheless, all the best to you.’

If you do the simple math and subtract the loan from his monthly wages, the person will have RM600 left to spend for the remainder of every month. Do you think he can survive with RM600 in a month? What tips would you have offered to the person?
