Upon receiving our monthly wage, it’s up to us on how to manage our finances well in order to survive for the remainder of the month after paying off what’s necessary.

Recently, a netizen who works in Penang shared her experience in the Facebook group 槟城吹水站 about how she is left with RM100 every month after receiving her salary of RM4,000. She shared the details of the breakdown of her expenses and here’s what it looks like.

  • Double-storey house – RM1,900
  • Car loan (Toyota Vios) – RM700
  • Phone bill – RM100
  • Insurance – RM200
  • Pocket money for parents – RM500
  • Petrol – RM500

“Please don’t invite me to any weddings and don’t ask me out for dinner or movies. RM100 is what I have left for food until the end of the month.”

She also said that she had thoughts about moving to Singapore and working there but unfortunately she was unable to let go of the things and people here. She then reminded people to be grateful and not to ask too much in life.

“If you have food and shelter, that’s more than enough!”

She ended the post by saying if you’re earning less than RM7,000 per month and staying in Penang, then you are equivalent to a beggar!

That doesn’t seem right!

Her post gained the attention of netizens and most of them find it hard to believe that she can survive with RM100 for the entire month.

“RM100 to survive every month and you’re still alive? Still typing here?”

On the other hand, some netizens question her need to buy a double-storey house and a Toyota Vios, despite her RM4,000 monthly pay.

“Why did you buy a double-storey house when you know you don’t earn that much?”

“There are a lot of Penangites who earn RM1k plus and still manage to live well.”

“RM500 for fuel? Is Penang that big?”

To our readers in Penang, do you think RM4,000 is enough to survive in Penang?
