During the flood, we’re often asked not to drive through the flood in order to avoid unnecessary damages. But a recent video that shows the King of The Road casually driving through the flood while a Mazda was stranded nearby has amazed the people.

This is actually not the first time that people have seen a Myvi driving through the flood. Some of us may think that all it takes to drive through the flood is skills, or guts. However, a man has recently cleared up the debate.

The height of the air intake system

Mg3hub, an automobile tutorial channel on TikTok recently revealed that the height of the air intake plays an important role in determining if your car is safe to go through the flood.

Axia, for instance, is able to go through a flood that is as deep as 2.5 feet. If we look at other cars, most of their air intakes are located at the front which explains why their engines are prone to damages in floodwater. You can watch the short clip below.

Generally, the height of air intake in most Perodua vehicles is higher than the others. According to Revo, the function of the air intake system is to allow air to reach your engine. Oxygen in the air is one of the necessary elements for the engine combustion process.

It is always safer to wait and to NOT go through the floodwater. However, if you must, here’s how you can do so safely.

  • Estimate the depth of the floodwater by observing the cars that are able to go through the flood.
  • This is not the time for you to speed. Drive slowly.
  • If you’re driving a manual car, stay with Gear 1. If you’re driving an auto, stick to D. Make sure the speed is consistent and don’t shift gears while you’re at it or the floodwater will enter the exhaust system which will cause damage.
  • Check your brakes after going through the flood. Step on the brake to dry the drum and the brake pad.

This will come in handy if you are stuck in the flood in the future. If you are unsure, it’s best to wait for help. Drive safe and think of your loved ones!
