You may remember our Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, from such incidents as ‘orangutans will kill you first‘ and wanting to guide the Taliban on women’s rights.

Well, recently, she traveled to Bangladesh to discuss and build ties with the Minister of Commerce of Bangladesh, Tipu Munshi.

And while she was there, she was also honoured with 2 awards from the University of Information Technology and Science (UITS) and the Asia Pacific University in Bangladesh, in appreciation for her contributions in women’s empowerment.

Zuraida 1

Based on a report by Berita Harian, the first award was presented to Zuraida by the UITS Board of Trustees member and PHP Family Managing Director, Mohamed Iqbal Hossain.

“According to the university, Zuraida is a role model for women based on her track record in pushing the women’s agenda. Zuraida is also the founding president of the Council of Women Political Leaders of Malaysia (COMWEL).”

She then also received the ‘Gender Equality (Women’s Empowerment)’ award from the Dhaka-based Asia Pacific University, after delivering a keynote address titled ‘Gender Equality in the Workplace and its Impact on Covid-19‘.

In her keynote speech, Zuraida said that as a woman politician, she will continue to fight for gender equality, including in policy formulation.

What do you think of Zuraida’s awards? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
