If you ask any Malaysian, what’s the one thing they want most, they’ll most probably tell you its a higher salary.

Most Malaysians also refuse to do 3D (dangerous, dirty, difficult) jobs because of the nature of the work on top of low salaries.

Well, Singapore doesn’t have to worry about that problem with their new Progressive Wage Model (PWM). With this initiative, Singaporean garbage collectors will be able to earn up to RM10,137.28 (S$3,260) a month by 2028.

Based on a report by The Straits Times, the salary is double from what entry-level waste management currently earn.

“You will see about a 50% wage increase growth in the coming years. I think this is a good outcome between unions and employers,”

“But at the same time, we want to see the sector transform in a meaningful and sustainable way,” shared Singapore Senior Minister of State for Manpower, Zaqy Mohamad.

3,000 waste management workers will not only see wage increments but also mandatory annual bonuses and career and skills progression.

They will also receive a stipulated minimum hourly overtime pay.

Zapy Mohamad went on to share that these business costs will not cause an increase of prices for consumers.

Be right back, packing my bags.

3D jobs certainly don’t seem bad when you’re earning wages like that. Our Malaysian waste management workers deserve better too.
