The floods that happened in the past weekend is definitely devastating and most of us had no idea that we were about to face a disaster completely unprepared.

Now that the flood is receding, netizens are sharing hacks on how to prepare for a flood in the future. This hack comes from a seasoned veteran, Radzi Ghani who has faced floods for the last 10 years.

Radzi has said that his hack works well most of the time and can prevent floodwater from entering the house! He has also said that the “fort” works best with low-level floods of less than 2 feet.

“Alhamdulillah it works 90% of the time and can lower the risk of damage towards your property. You won’t need to clean up as much after the flood recedes as well.”

Without further ado, let’s dive into it so that we can all be well prepared when something like this happens in the future. These are the things you need:

  • Plastic from hardware stores as they are thick and cheap
  • Bricks (measure the places where water might enter and buy the bricks accordingly)
  • Plasticine to close off all the gaps between the door and the floor so that the water does not come through
  • Wiring tape
  • Water pump if your makeshift fort has been “invaded”  by water

Radzi shares that having a submersible water pump would be a good investment but if it exceeds the budget then it is okay.

This is how the set-up should look like:

Tape the edges of the plastic to the wall with the wiring tape and construct a “fort” with bricks.

When you reach the desired height, fold the plastic over the top and tape it securely.

Stick plasticine into the gaps between the door and the wall/floor and cover with tape.

Make sure that you fully fill the gaps because water will enter there!

This is Radzi’s house during a flood and as you can see, the water level is quite high outside but the insides of the house remained dry!

This is certainly good advice! Do you guys have any other hacks for preventing floodwater from getting into the house? Let us know in the comments.
