While Malaysians are still sour on the latest announcement made by the Ministry of Transport that toll booths on the main stretch of the North-South Highway (PLUS) will be swapping out Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG toll collection for radio frequency identification (RFID) toll booths, this netizen shared just how thing are done overseas.

Sharing images of what toll booths looked like in New Zealand, netizen Syed Nabil Syed Ahmad posted his story on what he saw in Tauranga.

“This is a toll booth in Tauranga, New Zealand. It has no boom gate, no lanes, no Touch ‘n Go, SmartTAG or RFID.”

“It uses a camera that captures plate numbers, and you are required to make your toll payments within five days or pay a penalty if you do not do so.”

“For those who use it frequently, you can create an online account and pre-load your account with the amount you need.”

“Gone are the days when you fear that you may not have enough for tolls in your toll card.”

Garnering 827 likes, 299 comments and 219 shares, it is safe to say that this may be an innovation that Malaysians wants to happen.

If only Malaysia were to apply this. Surely this will be the move we need to lessen our traffic congestion.
