Sometimes, it is terrifying to even imagine what humans are capable of doing, even towards innocent children.

Recently, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) collaborated with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to catch a Malaysian pedophile in Lundu, Sarawak. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the 40-year-old perpetrator, Alladin Lanim, has been committing these heinous acts for at least 14 years under the radar. He uploaded his obscene acts on the dark web, which made things tricky for the authorities to detect him.

Detective Sergeant Daniel Burnicle, the acting senior officer for the AFP said that the pandemic made it more difficult for them to spot the predator.

“It was difficult to get around the country and we just conducted those basic field inquiries.”

Alladin’s online alias was listed as one of the most wanted offenders in child exploitation on the internet, which caught the attention of the Australian authorities. He has also been sharing sexual abuse material online, especially on the dark web since 2007 and is credited for more than 1,000 child porn images and videos.

Additionally, Alladin had been sexually abusing children aged between 2 to 16, where he would commit disgusting acts at a plantation and on the veranda of a house in Lundu. He would lure his victims with the games in his mobile phone before revealing his real intention.

Borneo Post Online reported that after crawling through his finances and personal records, the Australian authorities came across a similar image of the perpetrator that was forwarded to the PDRM months earlier. After months of tracking, he was finally located in a Covid-19 quarantine centre in Kuching, Sarawak, following his return from the peninsula Malaysia.

According to Dayak Daily, Malaysian police waited for him outside the quarantine centre on his last isolation day, which led to his capture and the end of his 14-year-run. Alladin Lanim pleaded guilty to 18 charges and was sentenced to 48 years in prison and 15 strokes of the cane.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah expressed her gratitude and relief over the capture of the predator.

“I’m grateful that he is finally apprehended and being punished for his hideous crimes. Malaysian police will continue to protect the minors in spite of Covid-19.”
