Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is determined to continue with the Tokyo Olympics despite reports that the Games will be cancelled after an unnamed senior cabinet minister deemed it impossible to continue due to the still-rampant Covid-19 pandemic. As reported by CNN, he said,

“All our delivery partners including the national government, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee, the IOC and the IPC are fully focused on hosting the Games this summer. We are determined to work closely together with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee, and the IOC to realize a safe and secure Olympics.”

Hopefully, the organizers can work together in ensuring the safety of everyone involved with the Games. The scale of the movement of athletes, officials and volunteers will be huge and any slip up can lead to another outbreak which will affect a lot of countries.

The global population will surely understand if the decision is made to cancel or postpone the Tokyo Olympics! Let’s wait and see for new updates in the upcoming month.
