A YouTube video telling the story of a same-sex couple, touched the hearts of thousands recently.

Jennifer and Sam, who are from Taiwan, recently got married in a beautiful ceremony attended by their closest friends and colleagues. They have been together for 11 years.

One of the brides, Jennifer, stated that her parents did not approve of her being gay and rarely speak to her since she came out.

In the interview segment of the video, Jennifer says,

“My parents are strongly against it. Whenever my father sees Sam, he will push her out and tell her to get lost.”

Understandably, this breaks Jennifer’s heart, seeing as most of her friends and colleagues are so accepting of her relationship with Sam.

Jennifer works for HSBC bank and in the video, she expressed her initial concerns about coming out, initially.

“I was concerned that it would stop clients banking with [us]. So I considered it very carefully and realised that some clients were very supportive.”

Her boss, CEO John Li, empathised with her story and offered to walk her down the aisle for the wedding to show his support for his employee.

The touching video shows Jennifer and Sam, both walking down the aisle in tears, as both of them thought they would have never made it this far as a couple.

Although same-sex marriage in Taiwan is illegal, the marriage between Jennifer and Sam was symbolic for them and more of a celebration of their love, rather than an official document-signing ceremony.

Jennifer hopes sharing her story will inspire other LGBTQ+ couples, showing that they can live fulfilling lives with their partners too.
