Public Health England Official guidance today announced that priority for the distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine will be given to severely obese people with Body Mass Indexes (BMI) of more than 60, aged between 18 and 65.

The logic behind the decision was made because health officials viewed people in that category to be more at risk.

“Obesity is a top risk factor for a severe illness like the deadly Covid-19, making the severely overweight twice as likely to die.”

As a result, the PHE guidance has placed the morbidly obese as among the top in the list of people who are prioritized to get vaccinated over older adults, with NHS and care home workers being the first to receive the vaccination.

The UK has ordered doses of vaccines from several would-be suppliers which include Oxford AstraZeneca shot, and Pfizer’s jab.

As the world prepares itself for the vaccine, we are sure many are hoping that things would go back to what it used to be before the pandemic.
