The Covid-9 pandemic is the most defining event of 2020, and one of the responses we’ve seen so far from the public is the change in shopping behaviour from bulk buying to online shopping.

As most cities in Malaysia are undergoing lockdowns, retailers are made to find new ways to adapt to new shopping habits, with minimal contact – thus the boom in online shopping became apparent.

To show just how big the industry has become, one netizen shared a video of how online sellers take to social media in China to sell their goods.

Shared by @magmalaya, you can actually see how many offices are currently occupied as sellers take to their ‘live’ feeds peddling their items on Tik Tok and Taobao.

“Imagine the convenience of all online sellers occupying one floor for their ‘live’.”

“E-commerce entrepreneurs here can indeed learn something from China.”

Netizens commenting on the post have also begun thinking of their own e-commerce hub based on the video.

“This idea would work. All you need is a good internet connection and a studio.”

“All sellers need to do is bring their stuff and promote.”

Wob 002

“I’ve been thinking about this, and what we can do is pool all sellers in one hub, prepare storage space and offices for sellers to manage their business.”

“Courier service providers can simply come, pick up and deliver their goods from there.”

It’s amazing how people can simply innovate by taking inspiration from things done elsewhere. Let’s hope that businesses continue to flourish in the new norm.
