The increase in Covid-19 cases in Malaysia is not slowing down and it is crucial that individuals who have been to red zone areas thoroughly comply to the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the government. But it seems like some people are still not taking it seriously.

A man who works in Sabah was caught by the authorities for removing his pink wristband after arriving in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

According to Info Roadblock JPJ/POLIS, the man had arrived at KLIA on 2 October and underwent a Covid-19 swab test. He was then ordered to quarantine himself according to Section 15(1) Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988.

However, an operation carried out by the Kemaman Health Office at a premise found that the man had removed his wristband without permission from the authorities because he wanted to go out to do his laundry.

The health inspector on duty issued a compound under Section 18 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988, which allows an authorised public officer can issue a compound not exceeding RM1,000.

This special operation was carried out daily to monitor 41 people categorised as Person Under Surveillance (PUS) who had returned from red and yellow zone areas, especially from Sabah and Kedah.

This operation had also intensified following the increase in Covid-19 cases in the country. Individuals who violate the quarantine order can also be prosecuted in court.
