Crime in Malaysia is seriously off the charts. One minute you’re reading about a snatch theft case, next second you hear about a fatal shooting case.

We’re taught to always be aware of our surroundings, because robbery can happen anytime anywhere. Worse? It only takes a split second for it to happen and this CCTV footage has proven so.

Malaysian Facebook user, Kimmy Tung recounts her experience when she was in Sushi King at IPC shopping centre. She writes,

“We have never thought that it would ever happen to us.

Being a frequent business traveller, I am always wary about losing my personal belongings. I make it a rule to always place my wallet in my sling bag and sling it in front of my body and never remove the bag in public.

But on Dec 12, 2016 at Sushi King @ IPC Shopping Centre, I forgo this rule of mine, removing my sling bag containing my wallet with cash, identity card, driving licence and ATM cards and place it at the back of my seat. I did that mainly because the high chair in the restaurant was too close to each other and my son was uncomfortable with me carrying the sling bag, sitting beside him.

We didn’t realise that my bag was stolen until we were about to settle the bill. From the video captured by the CCTV in the restaurant, we saw a guy pretended to look for a seat in the restaurant and stole my bag on the way out.

The whole process took less than a minute and it happened when when we were still trying to figure out what food to order.

My 3 yo son was terrified when we told him what happened and showed him the video. We feel sorry for him that he has to be exposed to the cruelness of real life at such an early age.

Nonetheless, it was a relief that the guy was only eyeing on my bag and not our children.

It is high time that all of us take this escalation in crime rate seriously and do something about it proactively.”
