Many parts of the world are experiencing high temperatures during this time of the year. Just last week, the United Kingdom was hit with a heatwave that disrupted their public transportation services.

Japan has also been experiencing a heatwave this July, with temperatures hitting 37°C earlier on Monday (29th July). The heatwave has caused a lot of alarm for the nation as thousands of people have been hospitalised due to the high temperatures. A number of deaths due to the heatwave were also reported.

According to the Japan Times, the Japanese government announced on Tuesday (30th July) that 5,664 people across Japan were rushed to hospitals due to heat-related medical issues. People aged 65 and above made up about 52.6 per cent of those hospitalised.

Meanwhile, at least 11 people were reported to have died because of the increased temperatures. According to BBC News, a 28-year-old man’s death from heatstroke was one of the most recent cases.

The man, who was rehearsing on stage with his colleagues at Hirakata Park, Osaka on 28th July, lost consciousness and passed away after being rushed to the hospital. The 28-year-old was reportedly dancing for 20 minutes while wearing a 16kg mascot suit.

Let’s hope that this heatwave passes soon and in the meantime, we hope everyone there is taking appropriate measures to beat the heat!
