According to Channel NewsAsia, a man in Singapore was recently fined SGD$300 (approx RM913) after he was caught shooting two rubber bands that landed on a public road.

The country’s National Environment Agency (NEA) announced yesterday (27th May) that they issued a ticket to the offender for throwing a rubber band in a public place.

Speaking to the news outlet, the NEA stated that the incident happened on Thursday (23rd May), saying,

“NEA enforcement officers observed a man walking towards his vehicle and shooting two rubber bands, one after the other, into the air.”

“The rubber bands landed on the public road. Our officers thus informed him of the littering offence and issued him an enforcement ticket.”

This isn’t the first time a fine like this has been issued either, as the NEA noted another case involving two men who were fined SGD$300 each for leaving their drink cans behind near an MRT station earlier this month. The agency continued,

“We would like to remind the public that littering has environmental consequences, and keeping our environment clean by not littering is a gracious and socially responsible thing to do.”

Singapore is known for its strict law enforcement, and people can get fined even if it’s just for minor offences. Earlier in April, a Malaysian man had to pay SGD$200 (approx RM608) for having one leg placed outside a designated smoking zone in Orchard Road.

Well, one thing’s for sure, if you ever find yourself in Singapore, be sure to abide by the law or you could be slapped with a hefty fine!
