A second Omicron variant case has been detected in Malaysia.
Based on a statement shared by the Ministry of Health (MoH), a sample taken was confirmed to be the Omicron variant on 14 December, bringing the overall cases of the Omicron variant in Malaysia to 2.
This new case involves an 8-year-old Malaysian girl who lives with her family in Lagos, Nigeria. She arrived in Malaysia, along with her mother and sister, on 5 December.
Her RT-PCR Covid-19 test has showed negative results upon her departure from Lagos. The family also transited in Doha, Qatar.
“They have been given the Surveillance and Observation Order under Section 15 of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act 1988 and have been ordered to undergo mandatory quarantines at their home”, MoH shared.
Close contacts to this case include the little girl’s family, a taxi driver and 35 passengers sitting around the family during their flight.
MoH has since assured the public that they are monitoring the situation.
