A 75-year-old woman tragically lost her life on April 2 in Penang when a 17-year-old motorcyclist hit her while she was crossing the road.

After the accident, the woman’s daughter is demanding accountability from the motorcyclist, as the teenage boy allegedly didn’t apologise for what happened.

Her mother passed away due to severe injuries

In an interview with China Press, the victim’s 54-year-old daughter shared how several bystanders tried to help her mother at the scene. However, a doctor later confirmed that she had passed away on the spot from severe head injuries and bleeding that led to her death.

The fatal accident happened around 11 am on the road in front of Seagull Shop at Air Itam Market.

She went on to explain that since the video provided by witnesses wasn’t clear, it was hard to tell if her mother had fully crossed the road when the motorcycle hit her.

He was scared to come forward

The deceased’s daughter also expressed her anger towards the motorcyclist, saying that not only did he try to flee after the accident, but even after her mother’s cremation, he showed no remorse for what he had done.

After the incident, a friend helped her share a post on social media, urging the rider responsible for the accident to come forward.

However, she later learned that the teenager had sent a message through a friend, saying he was too scared to come forward because he feared being beaten.

She emphasised that she didn’t want to hurt anyone, but just wanted an apology from the rider.

“Any legal decision will be based on the charges filed”

The daughter even contacted the teen after finding his Instagram account and invited him to her mother’s wake. However, she claimed he gave vague responses.

The deceased’s family plans to meet with the investigating officer once the funeral arrangements are complete, and the police will review CCTV footage to see if the accident was recorded.

She also mentioned that any decision on legal action will depend on the charges the police file against the rider involved in the accident.
