In a recent update on the Covid-19 situation within Malaysia, Director-General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Health has reported that a majority of positive cases for the viral infection have been traced back to the Sri Petaling Mosque gathering, in a report by The Star. According to Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, tests will be conducted for all members who attended the gathering, regardless of whether they show symptoms or not. The cost of the test is waived for foreigners.
“We have conducted about 13,000 tests and have taken (from members of the Sri Petaling gathering) about 6,700 samples. From that number, those that were tested positive were 940 cases, ” he said in a press conference on Monday (23rd March 2020).
While at the start, the Ministry of Health was only testing patients from the gathering who displayed obvious symptoms of Covid-19 as per World Health Organisation instructions, but they have since decided to test all of those who attended as a precautionary measure.
The Health Ministry is also working closely with law enforcement to ensure that all of the Sri Petaling Mosque attendees come forward to be tested for Covid-19.
Regardless of which, in such dire times, we as Malaysians have to come together in order to ensure that we take matters of public health very seriously. As the Movement Control Order continues, stay home, and stay safe!
