Earlier on Saturday (1st December), a 60-year-old economy rice seller was walking to her friend’s house in Lorong Lebuh Mahsuri in Bayan Baru, Penang at around 6.15am when she was suddenly attacked by two men on a motorcycle. The men tried to snatch the woman’s handbag.
However, the men failed to take her handbag, but the woman fell down as they were trying to snatch it away from her, causing her to land face down on the ground, according to The Star.
Two of the victim’s friends witnessed the incident as it happened, but did not manage to see the motorcycle’s license plate as it happened very quickly and it was still dark.
According to the New Straits Times, the woman is still unconscious as of Monday evening (3rd December) even after she had already undergone surgery on her head since the incident.
Doctors believe that while she does not have any visible external injuries, the woman may have suffered an internal haemorrhage. She is currently admitted in the intensive care unit of the Penang General Hospital.
Meanwhile, southwest district police chief Superintendent A.A. Anbalagan visited the woman and her son at the hospital earlier yesterday afternoon, accompanied by seven other police officers. He told the daily that the case will be investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery and voluntarily causing hurt, adding,
“We urge those with information on the incident to come forward to assist in our investigation.”
We hope this woman makes a swift and complete recovery and that those responsible will be caught.
