6 MCO Habits That Prove You’ve Become An ‘Adult’ Without Realising It

Throughout the long MCO days, many Malaysians have been spending this time trying out different hobbies and developing new interests. But as we spend more and more time at home, some of us may have picked up some ‘adulting’ habits without us even realising it! Sounds familiar?

If this sounds like you, keep on reading to find out some MCO habits that can reveal how much of an adult you’ve turned into!

1. You actually care about how your room/house looks

Considering that our living environment can really impact our mood and productivity, it’s no wonder why many Malaysians are investing a lot of effort into making our homes look as ‘aesthetic’ as possible.

Instead of hanging out at the mamak, now we find ourselves becoming like our parents by purchasing furniture and ornaments to make our space nicer!

It’s okay to splurge a bit more for your home. After all, it’s called ‘rumahku, syurgaku’ for a reason!

2. Forget the latest iPhone, you’re more excited about that frying pan you just bought

Much like many other Malaysians, you’ve also been guilty of receiving parcels almost every day to the point that you’re probably on a first-name basis with the abang courier. Instead of spending frivolously on some boba tea, you’re now more excited to get one (or maybe all!) of these items:

• Woks/frying pans
• Air-fryer
• Food processor
• Fridge/kitchen organisers
• Spraying mop …and more!

Now you can definitely relate to your mother’s obsession with buying household items!

3. Your social media posts mostly consist of your proud plant parent journey

Long gone are the days where you’d be posting about cafe-hopping with your friends or staycation-ing on weekends.

Nowadays, your social media is where you show off your newfound hobbies at home, such as planting your very own indoor garden! Need to show people what a proud and successful plant parent you are, okay!

4. You can no longer keep up with the latest internet ‘trends’

Since the emergence of TikTok, phrases like cheugy, sheesh, iykyk and so many others have been catching on. There are so many new words and phrases that come out every day, and tbh, you’re too tired to catch up.

Remember those days where we used to make fun of our parents for not speaking the internet lingo? Well, looks like we’re in the same boat now… ?

5. From binge-watching Netflix series to looking up cooking tutorials/home decor ideas

Now that you have some free time, you thought you could finally catch up on all the latest Netflix series you’ve been missing out on. But surprisingly, you’ve been more drawn to looking up cooking tutorials or watching home makeover ideas to get some new inspiration.

Who would’ve guessed there would come a time when you’d get bored of K-dramas and prefer to watch a kari ayam tutorial instead…

6. Instead of always ordering in, now you find it therapeutic to cook

One of the best things about the MCO is that it has made you discover the joy of cooking! In fact, you learned that it can be quite a therapeutic process after a hectic day of WFH. Plus, it’s also a more economical choice compared to ordering takeaways.

Why spend money on things you’ve been craving for if you can learn how to make it yourself? But let’s hope your dishes will never end up in the ‘Masak Apa Tak Jadi Hari Ini’ Facebook group, though…

Of course, there are some dishes that would be a bit harder to make from scratch, especially for beginners. In these cases, we’ve got great news for you!

MyeongDong Topokki has just released their very own instant Topokki Pack so you don’t have to make your favourite Korean dish from scratch!
