All of us are saving up for something, whether it’s for our first house, our dream wedding or even for that long overdue holiday. That’s why we sometimes need to be kedekut in order to save up money from every source possible!
Well, if you’re looking for ways to save, you’ve come to the right place. Follow these famous Malaysian kedekut life hacks and you’ll be on your way to your goal, one ringgit at a time!
1. Use your old student card to get discounts

Most places offer a discounted price for students, be it restaurants, movies or even karaoke centres. Even if you’ve graduated five years ago, you can still get these discounts by simply using your old student card. Most of the time, they won’t even bother to check!
2. Park at a housing area to avoid paying for parking fees
Source: Google Maps
Parking can be quite expensive especially if you’re working at a place where the parking rate is cekik darah one. Well, if it’s near a housing area, you can always a walk a bit and park there free of charge!
Remember to be courteous though, you don’t want to end up like this Myvi unicorn below:
3. Fill your soap/shampoo with water when it’s almost finished

If your liquid soap or shampoo is almost dried up, you can delay buying a refill by just adding water into the bottle. However, if you start to notice people holding their breath around you, it’s probably time to refill bro!
4. Make sure every last drop of fuel goes into the car

Sometimes when you fill your car with fuel, you’ll notice there’s still drips of petrol coming out from the nozzle when you put it back to its place. Every drop counts weh!
That’s why you have to wiggle the nozzle a bit before pulling out, or better yet, make the hose fully extended when refuelling like below:

You can also go to extreme lengths by bringing your own 3-in-1 to the mamak and just order hot water. Make sure you have really thick skin for this lah ok?
6. Book a single hotel room and then sneak your friends in
Source: travel
When going on a road trip with friends, we usually don’t care much about accommodation because it’s only a place to sleep and get dressed. If your group of friends think this way too, you can save money together by just booking a single room and after checking-in, you can secretly sneak your friends in one by one.
Be careful though, most hotels will charge extra if they find out!
They say there’s a fine line between being jimat and being kedekut, but then again, other people don’t pay our bills weh! Admit it, if given the chance, wouldn’t you want to take a car ride with discounts? Wouldn’t you want to earn points when you fly so that your next flight would be free?
