5 men and 1 woman have been issued compounds by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) amounting to RM30,000 for crossing state borders without permission. As reported by national news agency Bernama, the six individuals illegally crossed state borders for holiday to Pulau Redang in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu.

Terengganu police chief, Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa said that the compound against them were issued through an integrated operation on compliance with Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) for the Tourism Sector in the state. The operation was conducted yesterday and the day before, on 24th and 25th September respectively.

The 6 individuals that was issued with a RM5,000 compound each are aged between 32 and 47 in which two of them had travelled into Terengganu from Kuala Lumpur, another two from Selangor and the other two were from Penang and Melaka respectively.

Datuk Rohaimi asserted,

“Such operation will be continued from time to time to ensure that no violation of the SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) occurs to prevent an increase in cases of infection and transmission of Covid-19 in Terengganu,”

Datuk Rohaimi also warned resort operators that stern action will be taken against them should they ignore Covid-19 SOPs or allow tourists from outside Terengganu to stay at their premises without permission from authorities. He also reminded resort operators to only permit guests that have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
