If you haven’t already heard, the annual Perseid meteor shower will be happening in the early hours of Sunday (13th August) at about 12.30 am, according to The Star.
The best part? No matter where you are in the country, you will be able to catch a glimpse of this beautiful phenomenon lighting up the night sky!
Of course, you’ll need to go out of the city for a clearer view, without all that light pollution getting in the way. Hence, here are some amazing spots near Selangor where you can go stargazing this weekend.
1. Sungai Selangor Dam
Kuala Kubu Bharu (affectionately known as ‘KKB’) is a small town near Fraser’s Hill. The Sungai Selangor Dam is located in this quiet little town, which has a beautiful view of the night sky and a lake with crystal clear water. Due to its relatively remote location, it’s the perfect spot to park and gaze at meteors flying through the night sky.
2. Broga Hill
We cannot mention beautiful scenery without thinking of the famous Broga Hill. This popular hill of course requires a relatively easy hike to get to the top, but you will be greeted with a stunning view of the night sky. Perfect for checking out the meteor shower!
If you’re up for it, you can even camp out at the top of the hill and wait for the gorgeous sunrise, too!
3. Batu Dam
This relatively remote dam is located 30 minutes away from Batu Caves, bringing you away from the city’s light pollution. The dam holds a stunning view of a large lake surrounded by hills, with a nearby waterfall to boot!
4. Janda Baik
Known for its homestays, Janda Baik is a quiet village located in Pahang, just about an hour’s drive from the city. Located near the highlands, this village has a comfortably cool weather, which is ideal for staying out and looking at the night sky when the meteor shower arrives.
5. Bukit Tabur
Many know Bukit Tabur to be an ideal hiking spot, but did you know it’s also a perfect place to go out stargazing? Bukit Tabur takes about an hour-long hike to reach the top, but the view is undoubtedly worth it.
With a choice of either East or West hills, your view of the night sky will definitely be amazing when you reach the top, no matter which side you pick. Be careful when hiking, though! We’ve heard this particular hill can be pretty slippery on your way down!
So, now that you know of some spots to visit for the perfect view of the Perseid meteor shower, we’re sure your weekend plans have been sorted! You’re welcome! 😉
