Fireworks are not something to play with without safety measures as one wrong move can cause serious injuries or even death. Unfortunately, there are some who did not get that memo.

According to a report by Buletin TV3, 4 men were arrested in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, yesterday (April 10), after they were allegedly caught playing with fireworks in a manner that is rowdy and unsafe towards themselves and the general public, as they shot the fireworks at each other.

Kota Bharu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud shared that all the men arrested were between the ages of 22 and 27, while at the scene of the incident.

This comes after police officers received a call from the general public at about 3:00am on April 10, regarding noise from fireworks near a supermarket in Lembah Sireh.

Following the call, officers from the Kota Bharu District Police Headquarters (IPD) were deployed to the scene and found that there was a group of individuals, split into 2 parties, shooting fireworks at each other.

“During the incident, there was a group of individuals playing with fireworks in a fight between 2 parties where 1 party was at the side of the Lotus Supermarket while the other party was on the Sultan Yahya Petra Kota Bharu Bridge,” he said.

Officers then arrested the 4 men but they were later released after statements were taken and they were given a stern warning not to repeat their actions.

“As a result of the police’s investigation at the scene, no casualties or damage to property were reported in relation to the incident. Playing with fireworks to the point of disturbing the peace or endangering the public is an offence punishable under Section 13 of the Minor Offenses Act 1955,”

“Meanwhile, individuals who intentionally cause explosions or store explosives with the intention of causing danger to life or property can be prosecuted under Section 7 of the Explosives Act 1958 (Act 207) which can be punishable with 7 years imprisonment or a fine of RM10,000 or both,” he added.

The public is advised to be more responsible and practice safety measures when handling fireworks at any celebration in the country.

One netizen even pointed out that those involved in the incident were extremely rowdy and caused the situation to become dangerous.
