31 workers of oil and gas companies (O&G) and poultry factories in the Kampung Acheh Industrial Area were fined for not updating their health status on the MySejahtera app upon entering their workplace. However, the National Security Council (MKN) has clarified that it is not mandatory.

According to Manjung District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Nor Omar Sappi, police issued compounds of RM2,000 each to 29 employees of the O&G company while compounds of RM1,500 were issued to two poultry factory workers each for not updating their health status on MySejahtera.

The operation was assisted by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs and the Manjung Municipal Council, reported Harian Metro.

Nor Omar said that employers need to ensure that their workers update their health status to ensure that only healthy and symptom-free individuals are allowed into the premises.

He added that companies with many employees need to create a team that’s responsible for monitoring the compliance with SOPs in the workplace to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in their respective premises.

The director-general of the National Security Council (MKN) Datuk Mohd Rabin Basir has since addressed the issue, saying that not updating one’s health status on MySejahtera does NOT go against any SOP during the full MCO, reported Sin Chew Daily.

According to the Ministry of Health (KKM), those who need to update their health status are:

  1. Individuals with symptoms
  2. Individuals with a history of travelling abroad
  3. Individuals who are close contact with Covid-19-positive cases
  4. Individuals who have engaged in crowded gatherings or clusters.

Mohd Rabin Basir said the police have since been told to cancel the fines issued to the 31 workers for not doing so.

“It has been proposed that the Manjung police take appropriate action by asking the district health department to cancel the fines,” Datuk Mohd Rabin Basir said, adding that the case has been classified as No Further Action (NFA).

Meanwhile, he mentioned that if an employee at a factory has been diagnosed with Covid-19, all employees would need to update their health status daily through the MySejahtera app.

In the event that you need to update your health status on MySejahtera, here are the steps:
