MCA Public Services and Complaints Department held a press conference where a 63-year-old salesman shared his frustration over his married daughter’s online gambling addiction.
According to Sin Chew Daily, Lian said his 24-year-old daughter got hooked on gambling, which eventually led her to borrow money from loan sharks.

She accused her dad of owing money
With MCA Public Services and Complaints Department Director Datuk Seri Michael Chong by his side, Lian shared how his own daughter reported him to the police over debts owed to loan sharks when she was actually the one in debt.
“When I confronted my daughter and son-in-law, they denied everything. To my shock, my daughter even went as far as filing a police report against me, falsely accusing me of owing loan sharks money,” he said.
He added that he started getting calls from 2 loan sharks, with one of them claiming she owed over RM40,000.

He had to pay off his daughter’s debts
Lian ended up draining his EPF savings, emptying his bank account, and even borrowing from relatives to come up with RM250,000 to pay off his daughter’s debts.
He admitted feeling helpless about her gambling addiction and constant borrowing, saying he just didn’t want to deal with it anymore.
Realising there was nothing more he could do, he decided to cut ties with her completely and could only hope that the loan sharks would stop coming after him.
