Previously, 24-year-old Muhammad Hassan, a Pakistani remand detainee facing charges of child sexual offences, robbery, and immigration violations, escaped from Sungai Buloh Prison.
On 9 April, the detainee had just completed court proceedings at the Shah Alam Court. He managed to flee whilst disembarking from a police vehicle during an evening handover at the prison.

Escaped Pakistani detainee re-arrested after 9 days on the run
In a recent development, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that the man was recaptured on Saturday (18 April), following nine days on the run.

In a statement, Shazeli noted that the arrest took place at approximately 5:00 pm through coordinated efforts and cooperation between multiple agencies.
He further expressed his gratitude to all parties involved for their assistance in ensuring the suspect was successfully apprehended.

Surveillance and forest hideouts
Meanwhile, Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban revealed in a separate statement that the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) apprehended the detainee, who had managed to evade capture by hiding in various locations, including forested areas where he spent seven days.
The arrest was conducted by a team from the Intelligence and Special Operations Division at Immigration Headquarters. Following six days of surveillance and intelligence sharing with the Pakistani Embassy, the team launched an operation to track the suspect to his suspected hideout.
He was eventually located at Kilometre 24, Batu 14, Jalan Gombak Lama, 53100 Gombak, Selangor.

Arrest and survival tactics
Background checks confirmed that the suspect failed to produce any valid identification documents. During the arrest, he attempted to flee once more, but was quickly intercepted by the operation team.
Zakaria stated that during the day, the suspect hid in the forest surrounding a construction site. At night, he sneaked into the site for shelter and sleep due to safety concerns regarding the elements and wild animals.
“To avoid being detected by the authorities, the suspect also wore clothes stolen from the construction area,” Zakaria added.
A warning to the public
Zakaria further reminded the public not to harbour or employ undocumented immigrants (PATI), as firm action can be taken under existing laws.
Members of the public who possess information regarding undocumented immigrants or activities that violate immigration laws are urged to come forward and assist the department.
