The new age is upon us! Lately the world is abuzz with crypto and NFTs.

In case you’re not familiar with what NFTs are about, NFT a.k.a Non-fungible Token is a unique proof of ownership over digital artwork, such as music, images, documents and many more – even GIFs!

Heck, even Grimes, Elon Musk’s wife sold her art pieces as NFTs for USD6 million!

If you think that’s impressive, just wait till you hear about our very own talented artist who got onboard this as well.

24-year-old Penangite is followed by international artists and public figures

Ronald Ong (@ronnaldong) is not only locally known, but is also internationally recognised for his amazing dreamlike digital artworks. Followed by big names like Brandon Woelfel, Oliver Latta, Zedd, Logan Paul and more, this Penangite has been creating art since the end of 2016.

4 years later, he now has over 358,000 followers on Instagram.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Ronald, who’s actually a final year med student, said that he heard about NFTs through an Instagram friend of his.

“He told me there’s this new thing called NFT so I wanted to give it a try. He was kind enough to send me a Foundation app invite, so I kinda hopped on!”

Ronald has only listed 5 artworks so far. They’re:

  1. ZEBREO
  2. Catwalk
  3. SHIRD
  4. LOAFOX
  5. Leap of Faith

So how does he feel about people bidding that high an amount for his artwork?

“Honestly, I’m beyond words to even describe how I actually feel. I feel extraordinarily proud to given the chance to showcase my artistry, at the same time to be connected with those collectors that have chosen to invest in my visions.”

“I’m here to stay for the long haul, so always prioritise strong, genuine connections,” he shared.

While he does not have a solid future plan, he’s very excited to see how our future can change with NFT.

“Currently I’m working on expanding and solidifying my concepts, create images that convey stories, to engage with those that are interested in my artwork. I don’t have any future plans yet, just gonna ride along the wave as for now. We’ll see what the future holds for the NFT community!”

He also noted his wish on collaborating with other artists and musicians with similar goals and visions.

He used to dedicate 4 hours a day amidst his hectic medic schedule to hone his art skills

If you think it’s that easy to earn a big sum of money like that, it’s not.

When he started in 2016, he learnt everything from scratch himself. While it was very hard work, he made sure to still gave time to his artistic side. He shared to WORLD OF BUZZ that “where there’s a will, there’s definitely a way.”

If you’re inspired by his story, here’s what he has to say:

“I think this is the future of art, with digital artists receiving their well-deserved recognition.”

“But at the same time, I would advise any new artists that are planning to kick start their NFT journey soon, to emphasising on the rarity and scarcity of their pieces.

“Also, always keep in mind that their art speaks louder than words and to understand that there’s no such thing as overnight success. Patience is the key!!”

As an NFT artist he expresses his wish of giving back to the community by investing in smaller upcoming artists.

“I want to help discover more artists that are still currently under the radar.”
