Most parents always stress how important it is to make smart choices, hoping their kids will make good choices and steer clear of risky stuff. But sometimes, things don’t always go as planned.
In recent news, a 15-year-old boy from Singapore was taken into custody on July 18th (Thursday) following reports on July 17th (Wednesday) of loan sharks harassing a residential unit’s front door and leaving debt collection notes.
He was arrested with 2 debt-collection notes
According to Shin Min Daily News, Woodlands police officers launched an investigation and identified the boy to be connected to the incident.
The police reported that the boy found an opportunity to earn extra money through an electric bicycle group on Telegram and reached out to the other party.
The other party promised him S$400 (approximately RM1,370) for every house he splashed paint on. Tempted by the offer, the boy agreed as he was trying to save up for an e-bike priced at S$1,700 (approximately RM5,900).
“I was heartbroken”
The boy’s mom, Ms. Luo, said in an interview with Shin Min Daily News that she and her husband weren’t home when their son was arrested. They only found out about it when the police called them.
“I went to court last Friday and saw my son’s hands handcuffed. My heart broke. I was lucky to get a chance to hug him. I also told him to think about what he did and not make the same mistake again,” she said.
She and her husband also informed the school, hoping they would use this incident to teach other students not to break the law for extra money.
