Beauty queens often times have all eyes on them as they navigate their dos and don’ts while out and about.

One Malaysian beauty is now renouncing her title after receiving backlash for something she did while in Thailand.

The beauty queen, Viru Nikah Terinsip (who is also an influencer known as Duyung Darat), took to her Facebook page to share that she is renouncing her title of Unduk Ngadau Johor 2023, after a video of her interacting with male dancers in lingerie (Thai Hot Guys) in Thailand had gone viral.

title 1

She shared, “I return the title myself and I am fine with my decision. God knows better.”

In her video, she explained that she isn’t a perfect person but sees herself as more than just a title

“It’s not about a title, but how we believe in ourselves and value ourselves, and a title does not guarantee someone’s perfection and success. I am not a perfect person. I always pray, ‘God, it’s up to you to give me hard or too difficult situations, but please give me 1 thing, the strength to face it all‘.”

“Remember, there are efforts and hopes that we desperately fight for, but are more beautiful when they’re let go. And today, I found that strength and I am sure this is not the end,” she said before officially renouncing her title of Unduk Ngadau Johor 2023 from the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Johor branch.

title 2

This all comes after a now-deleted video showed Duyung Darat interacting with a male dancer, who was wearing lingerie, at a restaurant in Thailand that is famous for such dancers.

title 3

Following the incident, the KDCA also approved a proposal to strip Duyung Darat of her crown.

You can check out her video here.
