With Christmas just around the corner, many places in Malaysia have put up their festive decorations. Among them is a Malaysian airport that has gained public attention for its installation, though likely not for the reasons intended.

In a post on the Malaysia Education Info (And Homeschooling too) Facebook group, a user, who was not impressed with the seasonal decoration at Kedah’s Langkawi International Airport, shared the image of the Christmas installation that was erected at the premises.

The first impression of the Christmas tree, unfortunately, resembled a giant pile of excrement

“I ask for forgiveness, but whoever designed this and thought it was a good idea may want to reevaluate their design sense,” the user said in his post.

“And to think I just had shellfish for dinner when this came to mind.”

The Christmas display showcases a tall, cone-shaped sculpture crafted from textured sand, with a spiralled, layered form that resembles a Christmas tree, highlighted by a sparkling red star at its peak.

Furthermore, the structure is decorated with vibrant starfish and seashells.

Malaysia’s only “Under the Sea” Christmas decoration

The display at the Langkawi International Airport will be on display throughout December, as confirmed by another Facebook post. According to the post, Ikhwan Saloot, the mastermind behind the design, created the Christmas tree.

Ikhwan also revealed that the tree is Malaysia’s only “Under The Sea” Christmas installation, hence the use of sand and various seashells and starfish.

Attached to the post is a clearer and more flattering image of the sand sculpture compared to the one in the earlier viral post.

What do you think of the design?
