“Respect the court’s decision” – PMX Urges Those Who Don’t Sympathise with Najib Not to Escalate Tensions

Yesterday (22 December), the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s bid to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.

Earlier, on 10 July, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) had confirmed the existence of the ‘Titah Adendum’, believed to be an addendum order from the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA), which requested the former Prime Minister to be allowed to serve the rest of his imprisonment under house arrest.

Anwar Ibrahim speaks out on Titah Adendum issue

Following Judge Alice Loke Yee Ching’s ruling yesterday, Najib will continue serving his sentence in Kajang Prison until the full term is completed.

The Titah Adendum’s existence has sparked widespread discussion, especially after it was later deemed legally insufficient by the High Court. In response, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has weighed in on the matter.

In a statement, Anwar stressed that all parties should respect the High Court decision, while also recognising the legal avenues available through the YDPA under the law.

“I wish to refer to the judgment on the Titah Adendum issue that was delivered yesterday. The judiciary must, and will continue to be, independent from any external influence. It is on this principle that I respect the Judge’s decision,” he said.

“It’s important that all parties avoid aggravating the issue”

Anwar also urged everyone to approach the matter with patience and wisdom, noting that it would be inappropriate to aggravate the situation or escalate tensions during what he described as a “sensitive period.”

“Based on the principle of the rule of law, all parties should respect the Judge’s decision, including the legal avenues still available to file an appeal, as well as recourse to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in accordance with the law.

“Even if some choose not to express sympathy for Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his family, it is important not to worsen the situation during this sensitive period,” the statement read.
