An 18-year-old student died after he was hit by a Vietnamese driver in Penang during a hit-and-run attempt. Now, the driver is allegedly refusing to take responsibility.
The deceased’s older sister told the media during the funeral about the situation on the fateful night and revealed that the Vietnamese woman tried to evade responsibilities, and allegedly told the family members,
“Your brother is your problem. My life is my life.”

According to the victim’s sister, the driver has yet to apologise to the family
During the incident, the sister said a PDRM officer was asking for the Vietnamese woman’s identification card, which she ignored. Thinking that the Vietnamese driver was unable to understand Bahasa Melayu, the sister stepped in and spoke to her in Mandarin.
“I can’t give the officer my IC, or I would be dead,” the Vietnamese woman responded.

Shocked and baffled, the sister told the driver to take responsibility, to which the driver allegedly refused to do.

“This is unfair!”
According to another report by Sin Chew, the deceased’s father said that the Vietnamese driver was released on bail, which he was not happy about.
“Why does a person who kills only need to be detained for 48 hours? Even drunk drivers are detained for up to 5 days!”
“What kind of law is this?” the mourning father lamented.

The father, however, clarified that he knew that bail was allowed legally, but believed that the Vietnamese driver who hit his son should have been detained for at least one week. He also said that he had been busy with his son’s funeral for the past few days, and would soon lodge a police report about the matter and seek legal advice.
In the meantime, PDRM in Penang said the Vietnamese driver was released on bail 24 hours after her detainment, and assured the public that they are acting in accordance with the law and that once investigations have been completed, they will refer the matter to the Public Prosecutor.

The accident happened last Wednesday (February 19) when the deceased was walking home with his friends. The driver was also allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
