When a workplace turns out to be toxic to the extent that our mental health is in jeopardy, we leave and seek a new workplace, hopefully with a better environment and pay.
What else could we ask for besides a supportive environment and good pay? In an anonymous post shared on X by @meinmokhtar, A Malaysian woman admitted that she rejected a job position that offered her a monthly salary of RM9,000.
She didn’t even need or want to go through probation at the new workplace because she found out the place was filled with “Type C”. If you’re unfamiliar with the urban slang, it refers to the Chinese community in Malaysia.
“There are so many Type C there. I’m going to get a hard time working there. I’ve gotten a lot more fragile ever since I became a mother.”
Does the race of the people you’re working with matter that much, regardless of race? We’re sure many of those climbing the corporate ladders in the MNCs have to deal with people of all races and backgrounds daily.
“You dodged yourself a blessing and learning opportunity”
On the other hand, social media users were shocked to learn the woman casually letting go of a working and learning opportunity just because of the other staff. Many of them believed that she could’ve benefited from the abundance of learning opportunities.
“It’s scarier to work in a company filled with M. I’ve experienced backstabbing working with them. I don’t mind a place filled with Type C. They work as a team.”
One user commented, “It’s not that hard working with them, and it’s actually a good thing. They’re all hardworking. They start working before 9 am and leave at 6:30 pm, the earliest. I am not saying you have to overwork, but at least they can motivate you to be hardworking.”
“With M, it’s worse. You don’t get your pay, no EPF contributions, and they’ll play religious sentiment,” said another user.
“Don’t be racists. You might overlook the fact that some people of our race don’t pay the employees SOCSO and EPF, asking you to work without pay and do OT every day. Good luck.”
Of course, race and background shouldn’t be an issue when it comes to work. What do you think of this?
