Job hopping may be a common occurrence in Malaysia as a means to find employers that provide competitive salaries or to advance one’s career.

However, that’s not why a foreigner in Malaysia has changed jobs 8 times in the last 2 years.

Taking to Ricebowl, the foreigner anonymously confessed that they changed jobs 8 times in the last 2 years due to not being able to build healthy relationships with their colleagues, while alleging that their colleagues from all these different jobs had been “snobbish” and mean to them.

They wrote, “I changed 8 jobs in 2 years. Why can’t I meet good people in the workplace?”

“I am 28 years old and have been working for 2 years. I have changed 8 jobs in the past 2 years. The longest record is half a year and the others have been less than half a year.”

It’s not me, it’s you.

They emphasised that they do not believe their capabilities are what’s holding them back from staying with an employer, but the people around them that caused them to leave time and time again.

“I don’t know why my career is not going well. It’s not that I have poor abilities. It’s just that, no matter which workplace I go to, I always meet bad people. I quit because of bad interpersonal relationships. Most of the colleagues I’ve worked with are very snobbish. If they are the kind of colleagues that ignore you, that’s okay,”

“What I am afraid of is that I will meet the kind of colleagues who will sneer at you, or slander you behind your back and tell lies. I will quickly resign and stay away from these people. The bosses are the same. They only care about themselves instead of taking care of their subordinates. I have even encountered bullying,” they added.

They ended their post with their ultimate question, “Why can’t I meet good people? Or are workplaces (in Malaysia) commonly like this?”

What do you think they can do to find a workplace where they belong? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
