A famous Penang eatery is calling out customers who continue to light up cigarettes despite the presence of ‘No Smoking’ signage on the premises. The establishment expressed concern that they may end up taking the blame for these irresponsible patrons if staff fail to notice them during a busy shift.

The eatery, Nasi Kandar Sulaiman, took to its Facebook page to share its disappointment regarding the situation.

They wrote:

“There are still some who smoke in the restaurant. When we confront them, they pull an angry face.

“We have already put up huge ‘No Smoking’ stickers, but there are still those who like to smoke inside the shop.”

Staff fear unfair consequences

The eatery went on to explain that staff may not always spot customers lighting cigarettes, leading to worries that the business will have to bear responsibility for the actions of others.

“Sometimes our restaurant staff do not see or notice that someone is smoking. We are scared that, at that moment, other customers will take pictures and videos, and our shop will be condemned and summoned,” they stated.

“Therefore, customers should always be aware that smoking is not allowed in eateries,” they added.
