During the recent Budget 2025 presentation at Parliament on Friday (October 18), Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim plans to cut petrol, health and education subsidies for the T15 community, to focus on improving Fully Residential Schools (SBP) and public universities.

Muar MP Syed Saddiq later shared his disagreement, saying it could create a bigger class divide, especially hitting the middle class.

Now, Ayer Hitam MP and MCA President Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, too, disagrees with the subsidy cut as he believes it punishes those contributing to our economy.

“These T15 (community members) are about to experience an education subsidy cut. This is bad. And health (subsidy) as well, health subsidy (cuts) in stages,”

“It is unfair to punish these T15 (community members) by withdrawing subsidies and this group contributes to the national economy. Do not punish them,” he said when discussing Budget 2025 in Parliament on Tuesday (October 22).

In turn, he urged the government to refine the classification of T15 as to him, categorising those under the T15 classification as “ultra rich” is considered “unfair” to hardworking families.

T15 is currently classified as those in households with an income of RM13,295 per month.
