It’s not really a surprise to have to spend big bucks if you’re having a seafood meal, especially if you’re bringing a lot of people together.
Just recently, Ekin Cahaya, the wife of a local singer expressed her dissatisfaction about being charged RM1,260 for her seafood lunch at a food court in JB. Not only that but Ekin was also baffled by the receipt which no one could understand anything due to the handwriting.
Not long after the issue went viral, the owner of the restaurant broke silence and shared what happened via a video shared by her son, Yusof Abdullah on his FB post.
“20 pax and lots of dishes”
In the video, the owner refuted Ekin’s claim when she said she only had 2 fish but according to the owner, she had ordered more seafood and not just the fish. Here’s a complete list of Ekin’s orders during her visit, according to the owner of the restaurant.
- 4 servings of white rice, with each serving for 5 pax (RM40)
- 3 Servings of Baby Kailan vegetables (RM54)
- 3 servings of Grilled Ikan Pari (1.8 kg, RM162)
- 2 servings of Sea Bass 3 Flavours (RM96)
- 3 Servings of Butter Prawn (1.6 kg, RM224)
- 3 Servings of Fried Squid (1.6 kg, 144)
- Chili Crabs (2 pieces, 1.4 kg, RM135)
- Salted Egg Crabs (2 pieces, 1.5 kg, RM135)
- 5 servings of Omelet (3 eggs per serving, RM30)
- Siput Gonggong (1 pack, RM30)
- Beverages and Otak-otak (RM162)
In her video, the owner patiently explained the orders and the prices.
She also strongly denied Ekin’s claim and said,
“You said you only ordered 2 fishes. That is definitely not true.”
At the end of the video, the owner politely told Ekin that she could always visit the restaurant again in case the explanation was unclear.
Now that both sides have shared their stories, what do you think of it? For 20 pax and the list of orders, do you think they justify the RM1,260 of the total bill?
