With the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine, many people around the world show solidarity by boycotting products that are related to the former to oppose the genocide.
The US ambassador to Malaysia, however, thinks the boycott is pointless. Edgard D. Kagan questioned the practical impact of the boycott movements, including by Malaysians, and asked,
“Does anyone think the boycott has led to any improvements in Gaza?”
Edgard, however, said he is open to hearing any opinions. He also highlighted that the US is on board for peaceful protests and boycotts, according to a report.
“We believe in peaceful protest. That is acceptable and we support it. We realize people have strong opinions, so keep them coming. As for the boycott, I do not question the right to boycott. But I question a certain level of selection,” Edgar expressed.
KJ responds
Former minister of health and radio DJ, Khairy Jamaluddin was well aware of what Edgard thought of the ongoing boycott movement, and he has since responded to it via his IG story yesterday @khairykj (August 30).
KJ’s response was short and simple.
“Arrogant prick,” KJ replied to the statement and tagged the US embassy in the story.
Throughout the period, UMNO Youth leader, Dr Akmal Saleh has also been active in voicing about boycott movement. Tan Sri Vincent Tan earlier also reminded Malaysians that boycott movements will only harm the employees of the brands.
What do you think of the boycott movement?
