A netizen, Abudi Alsagoff, took to Facebook to share his scary experience during a flight to Dubai, where he ended up sitting next to an older woman.

In his post, he described the aunty as friendly, explaining how she struck up a conversation with him that lasted throughout the entire journey.

The auntie kept calling him “son”

On the flight, the auntie had initially asked Abudi for help lifting her luggage into the overhead compartment, but another guy (let’s call him Michael) nearby stepped in and offered to help instead.

As the plane was getting ready to land, Abudi shared how the auntie suddenly started complaining about severe stomach pain, which made him worried enough to call the flight attendants for assistance.

What struck him as odd was how the auntie kept calling him “son” and tightly holding onto his hand. It got to the point where people around them assumed they were related.

“When we landed, the same guy (Michael) who helped her earlier handed her bag to her and quietly whispered to me, warning me to keep my distance. He also told me to make sure the cabin crew knew we weren’t travelling together.”

“Thankfully, I listened to him”

When the cabin crew asked if Abudi and the auntie were related, he quickly cleared it up, saying they’d only just met on the flight.

As passengers were getting off, the auntie asked Abudi to carry her handbag. He hesitated, but Michael shook his head, signalling for him not to do it.

“Michael even slipped me a small note, telling me to let the crew handle her. I listened and walked off the plane without touching her stuff. The woman stayed behind waiting for a wheelchair, and I left,” he said.

Not long after, things escalated upon reaching the airport. It turns out the auntie had bolted from the wheelchair while dragging her luggage, and the airport police quickly stopped her.

“That’s when she started yelling, calling me her ‘son,’ and accusing me of abandoning her.”

“You can be kind, but always be cautious”

Abudi shared how it hit him that the auntie was likely smuggling illegal items and trying to drag him into it.

Luckily, Michael stepped in again, explaining to the police that Abudi was just a stranger. When the police asked the auntie for his full name, she couldn’t give it since they didn’t know each other.

Abudi mentioned how his belongings were thoroughly checked, but thankfully, there was no link to the auntie, and he was let go after being cleared.

“This experience taught me an important lesson: Never touch anyone’s luggage or belongings at the airport or on a flight, no matter how harmless it seems. Kindness is fine, but always stay cautious. Sometimes, your life could be on the line.”
