One of the most common spots for unmarried couples to “spend time” together appear to be hotels.
But, for those who do get caught, it can often be a terrifying experience.
Recently, a young man gave the excuse of inviting his girlfriend to play football video games when he was arrested by the Melaka Religious Affairs Department (JAIM) in a hotel room in the Melaka Tengah district, early in the morning.
They are among 6 individuals aged 19 to 23, involving 3 couples who were arrested by JAIM enforcement officers in operations in 4 hotels from 11pm to 4am on (March 18).
JAIM director Datuk Che Sukri Che Mat said that the raid was made possible through public information and intelligence.
“The 23-year-old couple from Pahang took 10 minutes to open the hotel room door after JAIM’s enforcement had knocked on it during a 2:30am inspection.”
“When questioned, the man who was also a mechanic, said he wanted to ask his partner to play football video games before the 2 of them were arrested for staying in a hotel room on suspicion of not being married,” he told Harian Metro.
Che Sukri added that another university student couple claimed to have come from Johor to Melaka just to celebrate their birthday before checking into the hotel.
He said that all the couples were arrested in accordance with the provisions of Section 53 of the Melaka State Syariah Offenses Enactment 1991.
