2 years ago, the government set up the People’s Income Initiative (Inisiatif Pendapatan Rakyat – IPR), which allows B40 community members to run small businesses like selling food through vending machines.

Now, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli is showcasing how these vending machines have helped the underprivileged community.

Taking to his X page, he shared how an underprivileged woman, Kak Zainab, is making up to RM4,000 a month just from selling food through one of these vending machines in Ampang.

He wrote, “This is the story of Kak Zainab, who can earn up to RM4,000 in net profits per month by selling food at the Ampang Park MRT station vending machine through the IPR INSAN program. In one year, she managed to get RM38,000.”

“It’s more than enough as Kak Zainab also accepts food orders. If she receives an order, she gets a little bit more money. If there are no orders, she can depend on the IPR INSAN vending machine.”

Kak Zainab’s contact details are also displayed at the vending machine, should anyone want to order her food!

Not only is Kak Zainab underprivileged but she also has her hands full with other responsibilities.

Hence, the Economy Minister urged people who often pass through the Ampang Park MRT station to support Kak Zainab by purchasing her food through the vending machine.

“Kak Zainab also has constraints due to her having 2 special, disabled people under her care,”

“Those who always travel to work through the Ampang Park MRT station can try Kak Zainab’s cooking. Did you know she used to be a chef? She said her Spaghetti Aglio Olio is her best seller!” he added.

It is truly amazing to see Kak Zainab thriving through her small food business.
