If you’re a fan of Pokémon and Uniqlo’s UT collection, here’s good news!
Last year in October, Japanese clothing label Uniqlo ran a T-shirt design competition for its UT Grand Prix 2019 and the theme was Pokémon. Fans from all over the world were asked to create a graphic tee based on their favourite Pokémon character. Now that deadlines are closed and Uniqlo has gone through over 18,000 design submissions (their highest ever recorded!), the winning designs have finally been unveiled.
According to NextShark, a total of 24 winning designs have been selected and those adorable tees featuring our favourite Pocket Monsters will be coming to a Uniqlo store near us very soon! Gotta buy ’em all!
Check out the top 3 winning designs below:
Grand prize winner:
Named “Ocean King”, this was designed by Li Wen Pei and it features three Magikarp below its evolution, Gyarados. However, it was later disqualified because Li had been discovered to be selling the same design on counterfeit tees and smartphone cases prior to the contest. This violates the contest rules which states that “qualifying designs must not have been published before”, SoraNews24 reported.
Second prize winner:
This monochrome tee was created by Mizukilobyte from Japan. The front has a simple pocket design emblazoned with a Poké Ball while the back is where it scores brownie points for camouflaging the Unown Pokémon in an eye test chart. Cute AND clever!
Third prize winner:
Second runner-up goes to Emily from the US and her “Pikachill” tee (adorable name!) shows Pikachu on vacay mode, sipping on a summer drink next to his buddy, Exeggutor on a tropical beach.
The top winners will get take home $10,000, $2,000, and $1,000 (approx. RM42,000, RM8,400, and RM4,200) respectively, including an exclusive invite to the awards ceremony in Japan as well as the 2019 Pokémon World Championships in Washington, DC. Meanwhile, other winning participants will get $500 (approx. RM2,000) for their creative designs.

Yes, there’s one designed by a Malaysian too!
See the rest of the designs on Uniqlo’s website, which also states that the tees will be priced at RM59.90 for adults and RM39.90 for kids. This UT collection will soon be available online and in all Uniqlo stores from 24 June onwards.
