When you get a new car, it is understandable that you might want to make some modifications to make it more useful or better looking for you.

However, there are some things that shouldn’t be changed as it may endanger other road users or cause trouble with the authorities.

A Malaysian recently took to Twitter to slam those who have been modifying the signal lights of their cars to other colours.

In a post by Haqim, he shared a couple of pictures which he took of a white Myvi on the road that had changed its signal lights to white.

Although this might seem “cool” to do, it could prove disastrous as white signal lights may not be as obvious as the standard orange/red signal lights. It could lead to accidents on the roads as people may not see exactly where you are signalling towards.

A modification that could prove deadly

Haqim’s post has since gone viral and other Malaysians expressed how dangerous the trend is and shared their experiences in having to face it.

“They only think about making their car look nicer but don’t think about safety.”

“Happened to me once on the highway. It was jammed and I was trying to figure out if there was something wrong with the car in front of me. Turns out all of its lights were changed to white. So obsessed with that colour,” said a user.

Meanwhile, some users called on the Road Transport Department Malaysia to take stern action against the owners of such modified cars.

“Please take note, I have seen a number of people modify their brake or signal lights. It endangers other road users.”

Have you ever had any on-the-road experiences with such modified cars? How dangerous are they and should the JPJ step in to punish those who have made such modifications?
