In a few weeks, we will welcome 2019 while we make some pointless new year’s resolutions along the way but, if we are being brutally honest, the only thing we look forward to every new year is the holidays. In fact, many of us are already planning our vacays for 2019. I don’t know about you but I know I am. 😉

So, if you’re already planning for your upcoming holidays next year, you’ll be glad to know that there are six official long weekends in 2019. That’s one more extra weekend from the five long weekends we had in 2018!

Well, let’s get right into it; here are the dates for the long weekends in 2019 so be sure to mark your calendars!

  • Wesak Day – Monday (20 May 2019)
  • Hari Raya Haji – Sunday and Monday (11 & 12 August 2019)
  • National Day and Awal Muharram – Saturday to Monday (31 August to 2 September 2019)
  • The Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday – Monday (9 September 2019)
  • Malaysia Day – Monday (16 September 2019)
  • Deepavali – Sunday and Monday (27 & 28 October 2019) *this holiday is not applicable for Sarawak

If these six long weekends are not enough for you and you wish there were more, there’s actually a way you can maximise and create three more long weekends – by just taking ONE day off! Here’s how;

  • New Year – 1 January 2019 (Tuesday); Solution: take leave on Monday (31 Dec 2018)
  • Chinese New Year – 5 & 6 February 2019 (Tuesday and Wednesday); Solution: take leave on Monday (4 Feb 2019)
  • Hari Raya Puasa – 5 & 6 June 2019 (Wednesday and Thursday); Solution: take leave on Friday (7 June 2019).

Alternatively, you could even take an additional two days off (after CNY or before Hari Raya) to enjoy a week-long holiday!

Besides long weekends, we have also listed down the national public holidays that fall smack in the middle of the week, and they are:

  • Labour Day – 1 May 2019 (Wednesday)
  • Nuzul Al-Quran – 22 May 2019 (Wednesday) *Except for Johor, Kedah, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Sabah & Sarawak.
  • Christmas Day – 25 December 2019 (Wednesday)

For these dates, you could take two days off before or after the occasion to enjoy more long weekends!

If you would like to know the complete dates for national and state holidays, you can visit this website for more information. Which additional long weekends will you be taking off? Share with us in the comments!

Happy planning, guys!
