The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has since probed an incident involving a 12-year-old boy who claimed to have been followed by an unknown pickup truck in Seri Alam, Johor.

The incident was brought to light on Threads by an account believed to belong to the boy’s father, who shared the scary ordeal his child went through while walking home from school.

12-year-old in Johor reportedly followed and chased by Hilux driver

According to the post, the victim and his friend were walking home from school when they noticed a black Toyota Hilux slowly following them near the Taman Megah Ria mosque.

Feeling uneasy, the two decided to run in separate directions. However, the pickup truck ended up following the victim instead.

“My child told his friend to run and split up. However, the Hilux followed my child and even turned around twice to chase after him. Thankfully, there was a woman selling mixed rice in front of her house who called my son over and asked him to stay with her. The Hilux then stopped near the woman’s house. Luckily, a man and his son came out of the house, after which the Hilux drove away,” the post read.

The victim then borrowed the woman’s phone to call his mother and ask her to come and pick him up.

“My wife called me while I was working, and I was shocked because that morning, when I sent my child to school, I had reminded him to be careful on the way home and stay alert, looking left and right. The woman later told my wife that two girls had previously been targeted by the same black Hilux while walking home from school, and she was also the one who helped them.”

When the father asked his son about what happened, the boy said he saw a woman wearing a headscarf and dark glasses inside the vehicle.

“He couldn’t see the person in the passenger seat because it was dark. The suspect also managed to take a photo of my child and his friend. My child was too scared to remember the number plate.

“Please stay alert and be aware of your surroundings when returning home from school or anywhere else, especially students. Thankfully, nothing happened to my son or his friend,” the post added.

PDRM launches investigation

Seri Alam District Police Chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak later confirmed in a statement that police had received a report from the 12-year-old victim.

He added that police are currently working to identify witnesses and determine the motive behind the incident. Monitoring in the area has also been stepped up to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.

“Police have advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information about the case. Anyone with information about the incident can contact the nearest police station or the Seri Alam District Control Centre at 07-387 1422 or the hotline at 07-386 1422,” the statement concluded.
