We all know that businesses have been severely affected by the lockdowns that have been imposed in our country during this past year and a half. During this time, we had to see some of our favourite stores close down and the impact hit us with a wave of melancholy.
Klang Valley inhabitants will definitely know of a certain Yoshinoya Hanamaru branch, a popular Japanese chain store that sells many types of rice bowls and udon bowls located on the top floor of Mid Valley, right opposite the exhibition hall. It used to be packed full of people during lunch break and for some, it is a place filled with memories, whether that be the location of their first date, a birthday or just an unexplainably good day.
However, this Yoshinoya branch has been reportedly closed down. In order to ascertain that, we went to their Malaysian Facebook page and saw that all activity has been ceased after 31 March. A trip to their website shows nothing but a cryptic message of gratitude.
WORLD OF BUZZ reached out to Mid Valley and we were told that Yoshinoya has indeed closed down in their mall. It is said that they were closed ever since March/ April 2021.
A further check has led us to the shop list of Yoshinoya Holdings around the world. There were three Yoshinoya stores in Malaysia as of January 2021 and it dwindled down to one store in April 2021. By June 2021, there were no Yoshinoya stores left in Malaysia.
This certainly stirs up some emotions in us as we definitely had good memories in the Japanese chain store. What are some of your favourite memories there? Let us know in the comments!
