A stadium in Terengganu has implemented gender-segregated seats to avoid the mixing of genders at the place.
In a Facebook post by the Terengganu state exco member Hishamuddin Abdul Karim, the seats for male and female spectators will be segregated starting tonight (July 30) during the Super League match between Terengganu FC and Negri Sembilan.
“This was to address the issue of intermingling between men and women during the FA Cup semi-final match between Terengganu FC and Selangor last week,” Hishamuddin said.
A special door will also be introduced by the management of the stadium.
“The stadium is open and women will not be barred from entering any door or sitting anywhere in the stadium.”
Hishamuddin also highlighted that the special seats are an effort to ensure compliance with religious and “shariah” requirements, with the intention to reduce the intermingling between men and women during football matches.
What about the families?
Don’t worry about it! The management of the stadium will not isolate the family members during the football matches. Hishamuddin said that a special seating area will also be designated for the families so that they can enjoy the show together in the same space.
“These special seats are designated for the comfort and safety of the women, as well as the families.”
