January 31 marks another historical day for Malaysians as Sultan Johor officially took oath as the 17th King of Malaysia, after the Pahang ruler’s term came to an end yesterday (January 30).
The oath ceremony and signing took place earlier today at the National Palace, Kuala Lumpur during the 264th special meeting of the Conference of Rulers, according to an official Facebook post by Sultan Ibrahim Himself.
“His Majesty also adopted the formal title or regnal name of “Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia (KDYMM) Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim” or His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.”
The formal title for Her Majesty The Permaisuri of Johor will be “KDYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah” or Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia.
His Majesty departed from the Senai International Airport in Johor this morning, accompanied by Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the Menteri Besar, and Dato’ Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the Minister in Attendance.
HRH The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al-Haj was also present at the oath-signing ceremony.
Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim was there to read the contents of the proclamation.
